The Chester Hotel is a small boutique hotel set in the heart of Aberdeen’s fashionable West End. KSLD I EFLA worked closely with Ambiance Interior Design and Bentley Shopfitting Ltd, the specialist interior fit-out contractor, to deliver a full refurbishment of the hotel bar. The result is a series of distinct spaces that offer variety in light quality and atmosphere.
In the front room, main hotel bar and garden room, decorative fittings chosen by the interior designers were fitted with dimmable retro-fit LED lamps. This allowed us to control them by means of the existing lighting control system to achieve different light levels and scenes. We introduced picture rail integral uplighting to cornices and a linear uplight behind the banquette seating. Battery operated lamps were placed on tables for localised, low level, intimate lighting. We also worked carefully to provide integrated lighting to the display shelves throughout as well as accent lighting to the central bottle display behind the bar to highlight the bottles and bring out the rich texture and sparkle of the bespoke antiqued mirror backdrop. A linear ceiling cove provides subtle ambient light in the garden room and the rooflights turn into artificial light wells in the evening. Planter integral uplight emphasise the natural feel of the space at night time and cast a leafy, dappled texture onto the ceiling.
Our client and their guests have been delighted with the result.
