We were invited to propose a new lighting scheme for this early 20th Century church some years ago. As with many churches of this period the building is beautifully crafted with precise clean masonry and woodwork. We were delighted to see that most of the original light fittings were still in place even though the chandeliers had been crudely retrofitted with industrial sodium lamps and reflectors at some point to increase the light levels in the nave. Having the original lighting present defined the scheme to an extent with our ambition to restore the chandeliers and provide any additional lighting required from fittings concealed in the architecture.
Once funds had been raised to install the scheme we detailed out the design to construction stage, finalised the equipment specification and help the church find contractors, procure the fittings and arrange for the original chandeliers to be restored by Stoane Lighting who also refurbished and converted to LED some of their garland fittings used in the entrance.
The lighting was in need of complete re-wiring and this was done largely using bare copper MICC that minimsed the visual intrusion and need for fixings into the historic fabric of the building. The control system by Mode Lighting provides flexibility to accommodate different services and activities within the church.
The project was completed in August 2021 and is appreciated by the clergy and congregation.
